Collage is an assemblage of materials that form a unique composition. It’s my preferred style of art and the perfect method for expressing my perception of the world around me.
My pieces are made of individual sections of paper that I make in forms and weights and then alter so each fragment reflects a unique detail from the landscape. Vast or small, compelling or mundane, I see possible compositions everywhere I go. I am always looking for the large geometric shapes and studying the rich colours and textures.
As I’m building a composition, I’m aware of how the scene first affected me; the mist on my face during a hike or the the clouds reflected in the water below my canoe. I can sense the deep movement and change that is always present and I try to put it all in my work.
I’ve been told that I have a way of personifying inanimate objects, that I imbue soul into rocks, paths and trees. I happily embrace that description; the life I feel in those elements of the landscape are as compelling and soothing as a beloved friend. - BB
